“Little Dawgs Football Camp”
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State’s “Little Dawgs Football Camp” concluded on June 12 at 3 p.m. (CST) with the more than 100 campers were taken to Scott Field at Davis Wade Stadium, just like the team does on Saturdays in the Fall.
The young Pups rode buses from the Holliman Athletic Complex and got dropped off at The Junction, where they took the same path as the gameday “Dawg Walk.” The campers made their way to team’s gameday locker room. The highlight of the afternoon is sure to be each camper being introduced onto the field, through the fog machine, by legendary Voice of the Bulldogs Jack Cristil. The SEC ROCKS!!!
Fans were invited to come out to The Junction and welcome the little Bulldogs.

A Shout Out...The KING of Pop...Dies
Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted King of Pop who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world's most influential singer and dancer before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50.
Jermaine Jackson, Michael Jackson's brother, gave a press conference in Los Angeles Thursday afternoon. He said that his brother died at 2:26 p.m. local time, and it is believed that Jackson suffered cardiac arrest in his home, but that the cause of death is unknown until they received the results of an autopsy.
Jackson's personal physician tried to resuscitate him at his home, as did the paramedics, Jermaine Jackson said. Then at the hospital, doctors tried to revive him for more than an hour, but were unsuccessful. (associated press)Michael...YOU ROCKED!

Florida's Tebow...SEC male athelete of the year
University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow was honored Tuesday 6/23/09 as the recipient of the 2008-09 Roy F. Kramer Southeastern Conference Male Athlete of the Year (as voted on by the league's athletics directors), Commissioner Mike Slive announced.
This is the 2nd time Tebow has been named the SEC Male Athlete of the Year, as he received the honor in 2007-08. He joins; -Alistair Craig (Arkansas, cross country/track), Danny Wuerffel (Florida, football) and Shaquille O’Neal (LSU, basketball) as the only student-athletes to win the award back to back.
Tebow is the 3rd Gator to receive the honor, joining Wuerffel (1996 and 1997) and Ryan Lochte (swimming, 2005). Georgia’s Courtney Kupets (gymnastics) took home the SEC Female Athlete of the Year award.
"The SEC is very proud to honor Tim and Courtney, as they are outstanding examples of what a student-athlete can accomplish, both athletically and educationally,” said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. “Their hard work and dedication to excellence have made them fine representatives of their universities and this conference. Uk is Loosing Players
Wide receiver E.J. Adams, and tight ends Chris Cessna and DeAunte Mason have left the University of Kentucky football team, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.
Adams has left the team for personal reasons. He started nine games last year, catching 14 passes for 180 yards. He played cornerback his first two seasons at UK before switching to receiver in 2008. He will enter the NFL supplemental draft.
Cessna has given up football because of injuries. He plans to stay in school and will receive a medical hardship scholarship. He did not see varsity game action during his two years with the team.
Mason plans to transfer to another school. He redshirted in 2008 as a freshman quarterback and moved to tight end during spring practice.(by uk notebook)

Bert Bank, Founder of the Alabama Football Network..Dies
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.: Bert Bank was a World War II veteran who survived the Bataan Death March, became a state legislator and founded 2 Tuscaloosa radio stations. Perhaps his biggest claim to fame; was as founder of the Alabama Football Network.
Bank died Monday night at age 94. “Bert Bank was a great American war hero, a dedicated servant to his country and state, and a loyal fan and friend of the University of Alabama,” Alabama athletic director Mal Moore said. “Few individuals have had the impact on the university like Bert. Peyton Manning on Lane Kiffin..Tennessee's Head Coach
How has Lane Kiffin done so far as UT's head football coach?
Peyton Manning can't answer that question.
The former Vol and current Indianapolis Colts quarterback said it will be at least 2 years before he can properly evaluate Kiffin, who was announced Dec. 1, 2008, as the 21st head football coach at Tennessee.
"Kind of what I've learned, it's kind of like when we draft players with the Colts," Manning said Monday morning at Fox Den Country Club during a break in a golf tournament fund-raiser. "Two weeks after the draft they say 'well how was the draft?' I used to be wrong. I used to say: 'this guy is great and on and on.'
"My answer now is ask me in 2 years. I'll tell you how we did in the draft. I think it's kind of that same way (with Kiffin)."
Manning met with Kiffin later in the afternoon. It was the second time Kiffin and Manning have met in person since Kiffin was hired.
Manning also worked out with current UT players.
"To be fair to Coach Kiffin, everybody is making a judgment either one way or the other already," Manning said. "I think we need to let Tennessee play some games this year and maybe not just necessarily this year. I know it's a long offseason and it's more time to talk and analyze.
"I'm trying to get to know Lane. I can tell from people I talk to how hard his staff works and how hard the players are working. They're excited, which is good. Everybody should be excited during this time. It takes some time to develop."
Manning said he first met with Kiffin in March during an event for former UT players to meet the new staff.

2 USC Grads Honored for on and off-field Accomplishments
University of South Carolina graduates Jamon Meredith and Ryan Succop have been inducted into the 2009 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and on the playing field.
Meredith, an offensive lineman, was a 5th-round pick by the Green Bay Packers, while Succop, a placekicker, was a 7th-round selection by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2009 NFL Draft. Meredith earned his degree in sport and entertainment management, while Succop earned a double major in finance and real estate with a minor in computer science.
In only its 3rd year, the NFF Hampshire Honor Society membership has nearly doubled since its inaugural year in 2007. Meredith and Succop are among 564 players from 266 schools that make up the 2009 class. Student-athletes had to maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average and be a starter or significant substitute to be considered for the honor society. The SEC Rocks!

Good Bye Hall
Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Friday that linebacker Prince Hall will transfer to Central Washington.
Prince Hall has decided to transfer to Central Washington for his senior season. Hall played in 36 games during his Alabama career while making 14 starts at linebacker. Ole Miss...Jevan Snead 20th Best in College Football
Ole Miss Jevan Snead was named the 20th-best player in college football in The Sporting News.
Matt Hayes, writer for the Sporting News noted that Snead's first season as a starter was remarkable, especially considering he sat out 2007 after transferring from Texas.
Snead was the 7th of 8 SEC players on the preseason list, including No. 1 choice Tim Tebow of Florida.
A junior from Stephenville, Texas, Snead was recently selected as a Preseason All-American Honorable Mention and a 2009 Heisman Trophy candidate by NationalChamps.net. His first season with the Rebels saw him finish 2nd in the SEC in TD passes (26) and 3rd in passing average (212.5 ypg) and pass efficiency (145.5).

UK Bear Bryant Reunion
LEXINGTON, Ky. :The “Bear's Boys,” former University of Kentucky football players under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, had a reunion Friday and Saturday, June 19-20, in Lexington.
At least 30 of the Bear's Boys plan to attend the event, according to Dick Rushing and Bill Evans, who are helping coordinate the reunion. Among the returnees who have committed to participate are:
Quarterback/placekicker George Blanda, who guided the Wildcats to their first bowl game (and win) in school history, and went on to the longest career in pro football history!
All-America quarterback Babe Parilli, who led UK to consecutive appearances in the Orange, Sugar and Cotton bowls
UK football/basketball legend Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones, the only player to have his jersey retired in both sports
In addition to Blanda, Jones and Parilli, the of attendees included Tommy Adkins, Chuck Bell, Jim Bowie, Bill Chambers, Bill Evans, Bob Fry, Ed Hamilton, Jim Hardin, Bob Holt, James Howe, Harry Jones, Lou Karibo, Joe Koch, Neil Lowry, Chet Lukowski, Ken Lutz, Dick Mitchell, Bill Mosley, Jim Proffitt, Harry Rogers, Dick Rushing, Frank Sadler, Millard Shirley, Lee Truman and Clayton Webb.The group will have a reception on Friday, June 19, and a dinner on Saturday, June 20. The Bear's Boys have had reunions every two or three years since 1983.
Bryant was the head coach at Kentucky from 1946-53. UK compiled a 60-23-5 record during those eight seasons, including the Wildcats' first four bowl games. Kentucky won the first (and only) Great Lakes Bowl in 1947 and played in the Orange, Sugar and Cotton bowls following the 1949, 1950 and 1951 seasons, respectively. The Cats won the Sugar and Cotton bowl games.
Kentucky's best season under Bryant came in 1950. UK went 11-1, capped by a 13-7 win over Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl, ending the Sooners' 31-game winning streak. UK is one of four schools that have a claim on the 1950 national championship. At that time, national rankings were finalized before bowl games were played, but an analysis of the 1950 season by the Sagarin Computer Ratings lists UK as the No. 1 team for that season. from Kentucky Football Notebook

Howard and Zeier Permanent Bulldog Broadcast Team
Longtime Athens and Georgia radio personality Scott Howard and former Bulldog All-America quarterback Eric Zeier have been named the permanent broadcast team for Georgia football; according to an announcement Friday by UGA Director of Athletics Damon Evans.
Howard and Zeier teamed up the last two years as the broadcast team on Georgia away games and took over for home games as well following the retirement of legendary Bulldog broadcaster Larry Munson early in the 2008 football season. Go..DAWGS, the SEC Rocks!

Vols have New Strength and Conditioning Coach, Aaron Ausmus
Wednesday 6/17/09, Athletic Director Mike Hamilton said the Vols had reached an agreement to pay strength and conditioning coach Mark Smith the full amount of his two-year agreement with UT. That amount is that of the remaining $390,000 and until he finds another job.
Thursday morning 6/18/09, North Texas football coach Todd Dodge confirmed that strength coach Aaron Ausmus was leaving to become strength coach at Tennessee. The Denton Record-Chronicle reported that Ausmus will begin at UT on Monday 6/22/09. Now...the dirt keeps on coming...the SEC ROCKS!
