ATHENS, Ga. --- Hairy Dawg, the University of Georgia’s mascot, has been selected to participate in the 2009 Capital One All-American Mascot Challenge.
Honoring the “unsung heroes of college football,” Capital One is recognizing 12 mascots nationwide.
On Aug. 31, “the season” will begin when voting opens to fans. Each week, the mascots will pair off in a voting challenge, and the mascot with the most votes gets the win. After 11 weeks, the eight mascots with the best record will advance to the playoffs on Nov. 16.
The winner will be announced during halftime of the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1, 2010, and the mascot will receive a scholarship for its school.
