University of Arkansas senior Michael Smith was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, which was announced Tuesday by The Guaranty Bank SMU Athletic Forum. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top running back. Smith joins the list of three Razorbacks named to the watch lists for their individual position award in the last few days. The 2009 season marks the first time in school history UA has had a player on the watch lists for the Walker Award, Davey O’Brien Award (Ryan Mallett) and the Mackey Award (D.J. Williams) all in the same season. Arkansas is also one of eight teams nationally to have a player on all three lists this year (Ohio State, Va. Tech, Oregon, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame).
