Auburn senior defensive end Antonio Coleman has been named to the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award Pre-Season Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday.
Coleman is one of 55 players named to the watch list. It is the 3rd award watch list of the season for the Mobile, Ala., native as he is also on the Lombardi and Hendricks Award Watch Lists.
Coleman earned 1st-team All-SEC honors by the league's media and coaches in 2008 after registering 46 tackles, including team highs of 6 quarterback sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. He also had a team-high 13 quarterback hurries, as well as a forced fumble and a pass break-up. He was named the SEC's Defensive Lineman of the Week following Auburn's 14-12 victory over Tennessee Sept. 27 after collecting 4 tackles including a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Coleman will enter his senior season with 30 career tackles for loss and 14.5 career sacks. He needs 1 more sack to crack Auburn's all-time top 10 list. The SEC Rocks!
