Former Gamecock opts for Div. 1-AA after giving USF a look

Exactly a week after being moved from wide receiver to defensive back, Joe Hills has decided to continue his collegiate career at Tennessee State, the St. Petersburg Times is reporting.
Hills was very close to becoming a member of the South Florida Bulls -- telling the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that he wants "to go to USF. It's a better fit for me." -- but couldn't get enrolled in time for the start of classes at USF. After the coaching staff suggested he attend a community college then enroll at USF in January, Hills instead opted for the smaller school.
Hills was a starter at the time of his move from receiver to South Carolina's defensive backfield, and, after talking it over with his family, decided to take the transfer route.
Even as he described the departure as amicable, he seemed to take a shot at head coach Steve Spurrier as he headed out the door.
"Coach Spurrier told me it was best that I play defensive back. I told him I didn't think it was good a move and wanted to talk with my family," Hills told the Herald-Tribune. "My family didn't like it and I decided on Thursday night to leave. Coach Spurrier didn't tell me why he was doing this. He gave me an excuse, but it wasn't one that I felt was legitimate." The SEC Rocks!
