Gators DB's Black and Haden on Thorpe Award Watch-List

Florida football juniors Ahmad Black and Joe Haden were among 31 of the nation’s top defensive backs named to the 2009 Jim Thorpe Award preseason watch list, announced by the Jim Thorpe Association.
The Jim Thorpe Award is one of college football’s most sought after and prestigious awards, named after history’s greatest all-around athlete, a man who excelled as a running back, passer and kicker on offense, but also was an outstanding defensive back. Recognized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame simply as “The Legend”, Thorpe also played professional baseball and won Olympic gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon.
As preseason candidates for the Thorpe Award, both Black and Haden helped lead the Florida defense last season en route to the 2008 FedEx BCS National Title. Black started every game at strong safety for the Orange and Blue in 2008, totaling 59 tackles and a team-leading seven interceptions. Black’s 7 interceptions tied for the lead nationally. The SEC Rocks!
