Aubrey Phillips is happy to finally be at Auburn.
The path that brought him to the Plains was rocky, but the big freshman offensive lineman is now a Tiger and is looking forward to his future at Auburn.
He’s not focused on the past. Nor does he want to bring it up.
“I don’t really don’t want to talk about it anymore,” Phillips said. “I’ll leave the past in the past.”
In the past, Phillips chose Florida State over Auburn last February, signing with the Seminoles out of Olive Branch, Miss. But after a few weeks at Florida State this summer, it became apparent that Phillips didn’t fit in.
In an interview with AuburnSports.com on July 19, after being granted his release from FSU, Phillips said he was belittled by Seminoles offensive line coach Rick Trickett for being out of shape. Phillips said he arrived at FSU at 340 pounds — 30 pounds heavier than he was in high school. And that didn’t sit well with Trickett.
Trickett said that both parties made a mistake in the recruiting process.
“He made the wrong choice and I made the wrong choice,” Trickett said. “This stuff happens in recruiting.”
So Phillips was granted a release and transferred to Auburn — his 2nd choice. The SEC Rocks!
