Chris Todd's hold on the quarterback job may be slipping. The senior struggled for the third consecutive game on Saturday night, completing eight of his 14 passes for only 47 yards. He was intercepted once.
His biggest problem was indecisiveness. Todd was sacked four times, though only one of those was attributable directly to blocking failures.
"We'll look at everything. Of course that's the natural question that everybody's going to raise, but it was protection, running the football, throwing the football , we got beat tonight," coach Gene Chizik said. "You have 42 yards at halftime. You can't pin that on one guy. Not the last time I checked. So we're going to re-evaluate everything."
Neil Caudle, the team's top reserve, was brought in during the final drive and helped create the team's only touchdown. He completed three of his five passes for 34 yards and hit tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen for a score. Straight shooter: Chizik, who rarely reveals much during interviews, demonstrated surprising candor after Saturday's loss.
"I'd say they beat us in about every phase of the football game, from beginning to the end and probably everywhere in between," Chizik said. "We played a team that was more physical that we were, and I have to give them a lot of credit." The SEC Rocks!
