Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen became the third SEC coach in the past week to be reprimanded. Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen became the third SEC coach in the past week to be reprimanded by the conference over public comments about officiating. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive made the announcement today, citing Mullen's violation of the conference Code of Ethics bylaw that states there will be no public criticism of officials. On Sunday, Mullen ripped the SEC instant replay official at the Florida-Mississippi State game. Replays appeared to show Mississippi State's Brandon McRae stripped the ball from Florida's Dustin Doe just before he crossed the goal-line for a touchdown.
"That's twice now that they've blown calls on the replay with our games, resulting in big plays, and I think that's unexcusable for that official," Mullen said. "I hope he's severely punished if he ever works another SEC game again, because I think it's completely unacceptable."
The SEC said there's been no formal review yet of Mullen's complaint.
Earlier today, Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin was reprimanded for feeding conspiracy theories that the SEC wants Florida and Alabama to keep winning. Kiffin, who now once again has more reprimands than SEC wins, was put on notice because it's his second reprimand. He previously accused Urban Meyer of cheating. The next reprimand could result in a suspension.
