Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead nearly left the game Saturday during the Rebels' 42-17 win over Tennessee because he twisted his right ankle on a fourth-down sneak."It's just real sore, nothinig serious," Snead told reporters after the game. "It bothered me on the following series. Maybe I didn't want to put a bunch of weight on it. But it didn't bother me later in the game."
Snead finished with 13 completions in 20 attempts for 133 yards with one interception and is expected to start Saturday when the Rebels (7-3, 3-3 Southeastern Conference) host No. 10 LSU (8-2, 4-2 SEC) at 2:30 p.m. on CBS.
LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson is expected to return to the starting job after missing the Louisiana Tech game Saturday with a low ankle sprain.
Snead nearly was taken out of the Tennessee game, but offensive coordinator Kent Austin lost the election to head coach Houston Nutt and offensive line coach Mike Markuson.
"We were pretty close," Austin said after the game. "But Mike and Houston said let's stick with him, let him settle down. And he did. When you have some success, it's easier to settle down."
Snead has not had the type of season most everyone expected. That Heisman Trophy campaign never took flight. The junior transfer from Texas is No. 11 in the SEC in passing efficiency with 147 completions in 278 attempts for 1,983 yards and 17 touchdowns with 14 interceptions for a 122.90 rating. Jefferson is No. 5 in the league in efficiency with a 139.8 rating as he has completed 133 of 210 passes for 1,535 yards and 12 touchdowns with four interceptions.
