Even though the Florida Gators (9-0, 4-4 ATS) have already locked up the SEC East and will be facing the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game in December, there are still plenty of issues at hand. The Gators will try to wrap up their SEC schedule at a perfect 8-0 when they travel to Columbia to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks (6-4, 5-5 ATS). The blue and orange are obviously playing to stick around in the National Championship picture, while South Carolina is fighting hard to try to improve its bowl position with a signature victory. The college football point spread has the #1 team in the country favored by 16-points. Football betting fans will get their chance to tackle a 'total' of 42. You can find all of these lines at BetUS Sportsbook right now!
The Gators may be the top-ranked team in the country, but they don't really feel as dominant as they were a year ago when they won the whole enchilada. Last week was another example of the fact that Florida is solid, but not quite as good oddsmakers project them to be. The Gators stuffed up Vanderbilt 27-3 in a game that was never in doubt, but HC Urban Meyer’s kids were never in a position to cover. QB Tim Tebow didn't hurt his cause for the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, going 15/20 for 208 yards and a score to go with his 16 rushes for 27 yards and a TD. The defense made the difference again, holding the Commodores to 199 yards even without the suspended LB Brandon Spikes. The unit has fantastic numbers this year, ranking #2 in total defense (232.4 yards per game), #2 against the pass (134.4 yards per game), #13 against the rush (98.0 yards per game), and #1 in points against (10.1 per game).
South Carolina's offense has struggled mightily over the L/4 weeks. The unit is only averaging 12.3 points per game during that stretch, and even though the defense has done a suitable job, the team is just 1-3 both SU and ATS since it had its four-game winning streak snapped at Alabama. Last week, the rushing attack never got going against Arkansas, as the Gamecocks mustered just 53 yards on 23 carries. Even though they gave up over 300 passing yards to the Hogs' QB Ryan Mallett, they still rank #7 in the land against the pass at 160.1 yards per game.
If Florida is going to beat South Carolina in this game, it's going to come on the ground, not through the air. Last season, WR/RB Percy Harvin ran wild on the Cocks, rolling off 167 yards and two TDs on just eight carries. That was just a piece of Florida's 346 rushing yards on the day. However, Harvin is no longer on this offense, and though RBs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey may ultimately have a solid day, it's hard to see how it's going to be by a wide margin. For as good as Florida's offense is though, the defense is just as good. The Gamecocks are going to want to fight hard to keep this game as close as possible after LYs 56-6 debacle. The formula is there for yet another 'under contest, which would be the seventh in Florida's L/9 games.
