Urban Meyer finally figured out what's ailing the Florida offense: everything."I think it's coaching transition. I think it's execution. I think it's also some new players in new positions," the Florida coach said Monday.
"If it was one thing, you could fix the one thing."
The Gators (9-0) are ranked No. 1 in the BCS standings and own the nation's longest winning streak at 19 games, but not many Florida fans are pleased with the offensive production this season.
UF has one more SEC game remaining: Saturday at South Carolina (3:30 p.m., CBS), but the statistics through seven games are down.
The Gators average 28 points per game, down from 45 a year ago. Tim Tebow also has been sacked 20 times in SEC games, up from 12 a year ago. UF is averaging 380 yards per game, 50 fewer than last year.
The Gators also have scored a touchdown inside the Red Zone just 30 percent of the time, down from 73 percent last year.
The one bright spot, Meyer said, is that UF hasn't turned the ball over the past two weeks after committing five total turnovers against Arkansas and Mississippi State.
"Doing much better on offense the last two weeks," Meyer said.
"Still nowhere near where we were a year ago."
The most troubling stat, Meyer said: The Gators have just two plays of more than 50 yards this season, compared with nine last year.
"What we're lacking, after really digesting this for a while, we're lacking the big hits," Meyer said.
"We need to look at last year. We had those hits. It's either sustaining blocks a little longer, it's taking more chances down the field."
