Football's Hunter, Nixon Named To 2009 Freshman All-SEC Team

Florida freshman offensive lineman Xavier Nixon and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Omar Hunter were named to the 2009 Freshman All-SEC Team Thursday, by vote of the Southeastern Conference head coaches.
Hunter and Nixon both played an intricate role in UF’s 12-0 school-record regular-season finish, and both started in the 2009 SEC Championship Game for the Gators, Hunter at defensive tackle and Nixon at left tackle.
Nixon played in nine of UF’s games in 2009 and secured starts in the final four, including South Carolina, FIU, FSU and Alabama, while Hunter played in all 13 Gator games with 11 starts.
Nixon became the first true freshman to start at left tackle in the 24-14 win over South Carolina Nov. 14 - the last true freshman to start at left tackle was Reggie Green in 1992. Mo Collins was the last true freshman to start at right tackle for UF in 1995.
Hunter has tallied 12 tackles this season, including five solo, seven assisted and two behind the line of scrimmage, and had a career-best outing with six tackles in UF’s win over Arkansas on Homecoming.
