Spurrier gets year extension

South Carolina President Harris Pastides and Athletics Director Eric Hyman recommended a one-year contract extension for head coach Steve Spurrier to the school's Board of Trustees.
Today, as expected, the board approved the one-year addition to Spurrier's current deal, meaning the Ol' Ball Coach is now signed through the 2013 season.
""I appreciate our administration in believing in what we are doing here at South Carolina," Spurrier said in a statement. "We believe we have some big years coming in the near future. We have the best group of players here now or on the way here next year since I've been at Carolina and our staff is looking forward to coaching them over the next four years."
While the contract was extended, there was no bump in financial compensation for Spurrier. The coach has stated that he wanted any money that would've been earmarked for himself to be directed at his assistants instead.
