Top Vandy defender to undergo surgery

The Tennessean is reporting that Vanderbilt middle linebacker Chris Marve missed Saturday's Black & Gold scrimmage game and is scheduled for an arthroscopic procedure on Monday to correct an ailing shoulder injury that has plagued him for years.
Marve, the Commodores' leading tackler (121) and a second team All-SEC selection last season as a sophomore, has been held out of the last week of practice since re-injuring the shoulder.
That leaves Vandy without three of its top defensive players on Saturday - Marve and tackles Adam Smotherman (torn ACL) and T.J. Greenstone (shoulder) - due to injuries sustained this spring.
The decision to end Marve's spring early and get the surgery out of the way is a no-brainer for the Commodores. The Memphis product is arguably the team's top player on either side of the ball and is far too valuable to take risks with. He's not missing anything he hasn't seen before.
