Auburn's Cameron Newton was a top recruit out of Atlanta but ran into legal problems and a crowded quarterback roster at Florida, his first SEC stop. His career was rejuvenated at Blinn (Texas) College, where he won the NJCAA national title. He came to Auburn displaying a strong arm and impressive elusiveness in the spring.
Newton is officially still in competition for the starting quarterback job, but if the mammoth 6'6", 247-pound athlete is not in the shotgun on Sept. 4 when Arkansas State rolls into town, it will be a major surprise.
