It happened while tackling Heisman winner Mark Ingram during the A-Day Game. The feeling was familiar. Immediately, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick knew he'd torn the labrum in his right shoulder. It's the same injury his left shoulder sustained late in his high school career. "Things happen," Kirkpatrick said. "I looked at is as it's football, and I know things are going to happen. As long as I can get healthy and do the proper treatment, I'm not going to worry about it too much." Kirkpatrick exited spring as the starting cornerback opposite B.J. Scott, roles that each are expected to carry in the Sept. 4 opener against San Jose State. "We're a little hungry to prove that we're still the defense that we were last year," Kirkpatrick said. As for the injury, Kirkpatrick is practicing full-speed. But he wouldn't quite say his shoulder is back to 100 percent yet from the offseason surgery, but he feels that, "It's coming along."
