Defensive lineman Ben Martin suffered a lower-leg injury during a practice Thursday, and it was confirmed by head coach Derek Dooley Friday that the senior had indeed suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.
While such an injury this close to the start of the season would normally knock the player out until next year, Dooley was not ready to officially write-off Martin.
"He's got another year, but I'm not ready to say he's out for the year," Dooley said. "With these injuries, I never get like that. I'm just like, 'Let's see what happens tomorrow in rehab and see how it goes,' and you never know.
"But he does have another year of eligibility if it's that bad."
Most ruptured Achilles are indeed that bad.
