Scouting report on Auburn commitment Jonathan Rose: `Great speed, and he's tough'

This story, some of which was reported Sunday night, appears in Monday's Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register and Huntsville Times.

Leeds High School defensive back Jonathan Rose took recruiting trips to Alabama, Tennessee and Florida State, but, in the end, he always found his way back to familiar surroundings.
The son of former Auburn defensive back Charles Rose committed to the Tigers on Sunday night ending the chase for one of the highest-rated players in the state.
"I grew up around Auburn, and there was always something in the back of my mind that said I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps,'' Rose said.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder is No. 5 on the Mobile Press-Register's preseason Elite 18, and will be ranked in the Top 5 on The Birmingham News' Super Seniors when it is released. He is rated as high as the third best cornerback in the country, by Rivals.
He had five interceptions and 48 tackles, and four touchdown catches in limited duty as a receiver last season.
He had offers from Alabama, Tennessee, FSU, Georgia and Mississippi State, among others, according to Rivals.
Leeds coach Keith Etheridge has plenty to say about his defensive back -- and Charles Rose, too.
Etheridge played high school ball with the older Rose at Leeds, and Etheridge figures that gives him the right to needle him about his son.
"I tell Charles all the time, `He's way better than you were,'" Etheridge said. "Charles was a great player, but Jonathan has better ball skills. We laugh about it. But Charles just says, `You're not going to get under my skin. You are talking about my son.'"
