Vols' end apparently suffered Achilles injury

Tennessee coach Derek Dooley didn't know much about Thursday's injury to starting defensive end Ben Martin. . "He went down," Dooley said after the afternoon session of UT's preseason football practice. "We'll see if it's serious or not, I think it might be an Achilles or something. "But I've never seen Ben since I got here. He didn't go through snaps in the spring because of a knee injury. He's been kind of this mystery to me. He hasn't been 100 percent since I got here. "But we've got a lot of ends. We've got some pretty good bodies out there, and Malik Jackson certainly helps." Jackson, who played in every game last season as a backup defensive end, transferred from Southern California to UT this summer and will be eligible this season. The Vols also have senior Chris Walker, who is an All-SEC candidate. He and Martin are listed first team on the preseason depth chart, backed up by Gerald Williams and Willie Bohannon, who also have playing experience.
