The Dan Mullen-led Bulldogs put up 569 total yards of offense against Memphis, the fifth-best mark in school history while the defense yielded just 237 total yards and only nine first downs.
Redshirt quarterback Tyler Russell was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his performance in his first career game. Russell completed 13-of-16 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns. Chris Relf, the starter, completed 7-of-9 passes for 116 yards and a score.
Defensively, linebacker Chris White led the way with nine stops against the Tigers while adding a career-best 2.5 tackles for loss. Senior Maurice Langston added two interceptions, the first picks of his career.
Auburn enters Thursday's conference opener on the heels of a 52-26 season-opening win over Arkansas State. Led by second-year head coach Gene Chizik, the Tigers were led in their opener by quarterback Cameron Newton. Newton, named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week, rushed for 171 yards while passing for 186.
Auburn leads the overall series 58-23-2 dating back to 1905. State is 4-11-1 against the Tigers in Starkville. State will be looking to win its conference opener for the first time since 1999 when the Bulldogs downed South Carolina 17-0 in Starkville.
