LSU's head coach Les Miles, announced Wednesday that starting defensive end Sam Montgomery has been lost for the season due to a first-quarter injury suffered against the Volunteers. The redshirt freshman tore ligaments in his right knee and will undergo reconstructive surgery in the near future to repair the damage.
Montgomery had started all five games this season, and totaled six tackles for loss and two sacks.
LSU is currently fifth in the nation in scoring defense (12.4 ppg), 10th in sacks and tackles for losses (3.4 and 8.0 per game, respectively), and sixth in total defense (246.6 ypg).
