Jonathan Dowling no longer with the Gators

Freshman safety Jonathan Dowling has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules, Florida coach Urban Meyer said Monday. He gave no further explanation. for Dowling's dismissal. Dowling was a four-star prospect out of Bradenton Southeast. He chose the Gators over FSU, Alabama, Georgia, Miami and South Florida. He's the second heralded freshman safety the Gators have lost this season. Jordan Haden, brother of former Gator Joe Haden, left the team prior to the season for personal reasons. A search of court records in Alachua and Manatee counties shows Dowling does not have a case more serious than a traffic violation. Dowling appeared in two games this season, playing in the secondary vs. Kentucky and on special teams vs. Miami (Ohio) in the opener. Dowling was part of a 2010 recruiting class ranked No. 1 by Scout.com and No. 2 by Rivals.com. He was the fifth-ranked safety in the country, according to Scout.com
