According to The Tennessean, and citing an unnamed source, Vanderbilt has added Shannon’s name to its list of desirable candidates. There was no indication in the report that Shannon was, or will reciprocate Vandy’s reported interest, although it appears Shannon is willing to get right back into the coaching game sooner rather than later. Given the way he raised the academic bar at Miami as well as running a clean program, Shannon would appear to be an ideal fit for a school such as Vanderbilt. Also, Shannon was 'only' making $1.5 million annually at Miami, so money should not be an issue if Vanderbilt chose to pursue him. In addition to Shannon, the paper mentions that both Stanford assistant Greg Roman and long-time Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster would be open to listening to overtures from the school should they call. Temple’s Al Golden is also listed as a potential candidate, although his reported $2 million buyout could force a school such as Vandy to shy away.

Miami's Randy Shannon reportedly a Vandy target too
