Tide will meet Michigan State on Jan. 1 in Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

The near future for the Alabama football team will feature a clash between coach Nick Saban's present and past. Saban will end his fourth season as Alabama's coach in a Capital One Bowl game against Michigan State, where he coached from 1995-99. The Spartans are finishing their fourth season under Mark Dantonio, who was an assistant coach on Saban's staff at Michigan State.
The noon CST game on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Fla., matches the fourth-place team in the Southeastern Conference Western Division against a team that finished in a three-way tie for the Big Ten Conference championship. The Spartans had not won at least a share of the league title since 1990. Alabama (9-3) is ranked No. 16 in the final Bowl Championship Series standings that were released Sunday night. Michigan State (11-1) is ranked No. 9 but was shut out of a BCS bowl because the other teams that it tied for the league title are ranked higher. No. 5 Wisconsin is headed to the Rose Bowl. No. 6 Ohio State will meet No. 8 Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.
