Update: South Carolina AD's wife behind Stephen Garcia's suspension

Suggestions were made at the time that Garcia had been publicly intoxicated at an SEC-mandated character-building event, but the reports by FitsNews.Com and Saturday Down South.com say that Garcia verbally responded to a speaker at the event that was criticizing the Gamecocks' quarterback's leadership, and that the event organizer, Pauline Hyman, had Garcia removed. Hyman is the wife of South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman, who said at the time of Garcia's suspension that the quarterback, "exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student-athletes" and that he had "forfeited" the right to play football as such. According to FitsNews, a school spokesman denied Pauline Hyman's attendance at the event, or that she was the one pushing for Garcia's suspension.

Coach Spurrier told USA Today on Thursday that he would welcome Garcia back onto the team.
