Vols starting LB fractures ankle

According to both the Chattanooga Times Free-Press and Knoxville News Sentinel, starting linebacker Herman Lathers suffered a fractured ankle during a seven-on-seven session this past Wednesday. It’s unclear exactly how the injury occurred. What’s also unclear is how long Lathers will be sidelined, although head coach Derek Dooley, through a UT spokesperson, told the News Sentinel that he won’t be ready for the beginning of the season. Whether that’s just a game or two is uncertain. Lathers, who started all 12 games in 2010, had already missed all of spring practice due to a shoulder issue.

He is the Vols only returning starter at the position.
