Chizik to evaluate quarterback situation after loss to Arkansas

Today, Barrett Trotter is our starting quarterback,” Chizik said. “Obviously, we’ll spend all day today, we’ll spend all day tomorrow evaluating all of our positions on our team just like we do every Sunday and every Monday. And we’ll go from there. But today, Barrett Trotter is our starting quarterback.”

Trotter was 6-of-19 for 81 yards in a pick during Saturday’s loss. In both losses for the Tigers this year (the other being against Clemson), Trotter has completed less than 50 percent of his passes and thrown two total interceptions to one touchdown. But, there doesn’t look to be a solid replacement behind Trotter that can come in right away and produce. Freshman Kiehl Frazier has seen the field in Wildcat formations, but his knowledge of Guz Malzahn’s playbook appears limited at best; backup Clint Moseley has rarely been used this season.

“We’re going to continue to closely evaluate whatever gives us the best chance to win every week. That’s not just the quarterback spot, that’s every spot,” Chizik said.

Auburn is very talented, to be sure, but they’re also incredibly young on both sides of the ball. You’d have to think barring a complete meltdown that Chizik would stick with Trotter for the rest of the season.
