The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday that linebacker Cornelius Washington was arrested just before 2 a.m. in the morning by Commerce police for driving under the influence of alcohol. Washington was pulled over for going 92 miles per hour in a 55-MPH zone. “I asked Mr. Washington if he had been drinking and he stated yes but it had been several hours prior,” the arresting officer stated in the report. Washington added that he had a “couple of shots.”
Washington failed a field sobriety test and blew a .12 in an alco-sensor test. He was booked in a Jackson Co. jail and later released on $3,500 bond.
In a Sunday conference call, head coach Mark Richt said he met with Washington today. “He’s sick. He feels awful,” Richt said. “He knows that he let the team down, let his coaches down.”
Washington has been suspended for at least the next two games against Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
