Gamecocks could be without Connor Shaw vs. Gators

Speaking with the media Sunday afternoon, head coach Steve Spurrier confirmed again that Connor Shaw suffered a concussion in 44-28 the loss to Arkansas Saturday and his availability for the Florida game Saturday is uncertain. Shaw, along with a fellow-concussed teammate DeVonte Holloman, will not practice early in the week and their statuses will be determined later, perhaps by midweek.

“They will be sort of tested during the week and a decision will be made Wednesday or Thursday, something like that,” Spurrier said. “They (medical staff) don’t want, I don’t think, either one of them to practice Monday and Tuesday. They check them as they go through the week and just go from there.”

If Shaw is not cleared by the school’s medical staff and is unable to play, redshirt freshman Dylan Thompson would get the nod. This season, Thompson has attempted two passes, completing both for 17 yards in an Oct. 8 win over Kentucky.
