Imagine for a moment you're Mal Moore. You have just stood in front of the bright lights and flashing cameras again,posing in your best Mount Rushmore gape,to discuss the University of Alabama's penalties from the NCAA.
As you walk back to your vast corner office, friends and co-workers pat you on the back, telling you to hang in there, to keep on keeping on.
You sit back in your easy chair, kick your feet up on the desk, and somewhere in the back of you mind, that mock-Latin aphorism must be resonating...Illegitimi non carborundum. Don't let the b*st*rds grind you down.
But can you survive? Is it really worth fighting the good fight?
The answer to the first question is easy. Your best friend is Paul Bryant Jr. Until Nick Saban achieved celestial status, Bryant had the best name in town and was the Crown Prince of Alabama football. He still matters, and he has let it be known Mal Moore will not be pushed out.
University of Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore was at the helm during Mike DuBose's tenure, the Albert Means NCAA scandal, the hiring and bizarre resignation of Dennis Franchione, the Mike Price/strip club escapades and the badly bungled hiring and mismanagement of Mike Shula. And those are just football issues.The second question is not so simple. Is there really upside in continuing to do a job in which you have never really been comfortable?
Moore was never supposed to be the athletic director at Alabama. The former Tide quarterback turned top Bear Bryant offensive assistant was supposed to be the head football coach.
Moore thought he had the job, too, when Bryant stepped down in December of 1982. However, Ray Perkins was hired and the first person he fired was Moore.
Moore returned to Alabama seven years later after working at Notre Dame and in the NFL for a last hurrah under Gene Stallings. Eventually, he moved into administration and incredibly, was passed over for AD in favor of Bob Bockrath in 1996 (following another nasty brush with the NCAA).
Finally, after Bockrath crashed and burned in 1999, Moore was brought in and has overseen the fall of Mike DuBose, the Albert Means NCAA scandal, the hiring and bizarre resignation of Dennis Franchione, the Mike Price/strip club escapades and the badly bungled hiring and mismanagement of Mike Shula. And these are just football issues.
It appeared Moore was done on a cold December day in 2006 when Rich Rodriquez shocked Alabama officials by turning down an offer. However, Moore's standing among the faithful quickly rose like the Phoenix from the ashes three weeks later when he brought home Saban from South Florida.
It was the final cherry on Moore's career. The man often referred to as "Malfunction" could do no wrong. Three months later, Moore was honored when the school dedicated the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility.
Instead of being given a ceremonial role and quietly heading off to the wilderness, Moore remained as athletic director (with a new contract and raise to$425,000 annually), doing good work as a fund-raiser and being a beloved figure in Alabama folklore.
With another blood red circle on his resume, even longtime Alabama fans are wondering if Moore's time is up. Certainly, Alabama can ill afford more problems with the NCAA. As cataclysmic as it would be, can you imagine how much worse it would be if Moore was still the athletic director?
This November, Moore will celebrate his 10th anniversary as Alabama's athletic director. His work in fund-raising and capital improvement to facilities, such as Bryant-Denny Stadium, is exemplary. On Dec. 19, Moore will celebrate his 70th birthday.

Maybe this isn't the most surprising move ever. We knew Alabama was looking for a new radio color analyst when it became clear Ken Stabler had no intention of returning to the spotlight.
When we learned that Phil Savage would be given a trial run during A-Day, he quickly became the leader in the clubhouse. Now, it's official!

Auburn Rocks the SEC in Revenue
The economy may rattle season ticket sales a bit this time around, but Auburn generated the 6th-highest revenue in college football during the last reporting session. (according to Street & Smith's Sports Business Journal)according to the Birmingham Business Journal on Monday.
Auburn generated $59.67 million in football for 2007-08, the highest in the state. Overall, Auburn was ranked 7th Nationally in overall sports revenue with $89.31 million. The 2008-09 athletic year has not been tabulated, a period in which Auburn had only 7 home games as opposed to 8 in 2007 with 8 this coming season. Still, there is a lot of TV money to go around.
(Texas led the nation in football and overall sports revenue.)

Game Cock center named to the Rimington Trophy List
A shout out to: University of South Carolina senior center Garrett Anderson is one of 44 players named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List. The Rimington Trophy annual honors the nation's top offensive center.
Anderson, a 6-4, 307-pounder from Irmo, S.C., has played in 35 of 38 games over the past three seasons, making 21 starts. He started all 13 games at center for the Gamecocks in 2008.
While more than a dozen All-America football teams are selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses four prestigious teams to determine a winner:

* Walter Camp Foundation
* Sporting News
* Football Writers Association of America
The winner of the 10-year old trophy will be honored at Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb. on January 16, 2009.
Game Cocks to Kick Off the SEC Season
The South Carolina Game Cocks are the SEC team to start the 2009 SEC season. Their game will be televised on ESPN, the TBA, on September 3 at N.C.State. My guess would be that the game will be on at 8:o5 pm. My prediction,SC 21 vs NC State 10,you guessed it the SEC ROCKS!

Gators put 5 members on 2009 1ST Team All-American
Five team members of the Gators have made the 2009 pre-season 1st team All American team. A total of 16 positions on all the All-American and SEC teams was accomplished by the Gators. The following are those of the 1st Team All-American: Senior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC by the publication. Junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap (North Charleston, S.C.), junior cornerback Joe Haden (Ft. Washington, Md.) and senior linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.) were also selected as preseason first-team All-Americans and All-SEC players.

New 2009 Official VOLS T-Shirt
Tennessee's official 2009 football T-shirt goes on sale next week after fans picked their choice.
The orange shirt features the Power T on the back. Inside the T are the images of Lane Kiffin, Smokey, cheering fans and the checkerboard end zone. The white lettering reads "IT'S TIME" and "UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FOOTBALL 2009."
UT is encouraging fans to buy the shirt and wear it to the Season-Opener Sept. 5 against Western Kentucky.

Tennessee Sports Nation Results...Best and Memorable game
The percentage went to the 1998 Tennessee over Florida (20 vs 17) game as the most memorable. Could it not have been also the best in state history? The game that won the percentage for this honor was that of the 2001 Tennessee win over Florida(for the record in the Swamp)was indeed awesome. Although,don't forget,the 1998 game did lead the way to a National Championship! My favorite Vols-Gators game is the 1990 game. Both teams were ranked in the top 10 when the Gators came to Neyland stadium. The Vols were up 7-3 at halftime. Then, ROCK the SEC, Dale Carter runs the second half kick-off back for a TD! That was the final nail on the coffin...the Vols went on to beat the Gators 45-3 that night. Spurrier,speechless,visorless,was totally helpless in stopping the Vols! The SEC ROCKS!

SEC Coaches that led two teams
Houston Nutt has joined a special group of SEC football coaches that have led two schools and won at least 60 career games and a winning percentage over 600.
Topping this list is the legend himself in all of college football, not just the SEC, Paul "Bear" Bryant. Bryant began his coaching career at Kentucky, where he led the Wildcats to 60 wins in his eight years on the sideline.
Five years after he left UK, Bryant return to his alma mater, Alabama and it was there he made his impression 232 wins.
Bryant, wasn't the first SEC coach to change conference addresses.
Mike Donahue who was on the Plains from 1904-06 and 1908-22. From there he continued as he led LSU through the 1927 season.
His teams were known for their defensive prowess. Of the 139 games in which he led Auburn, 99 times his team won,77 were won by blanking the opposition.
Nick Saban returned to the conference this past season, winning 7 of 13 games at Alabama, but has just 37 SEC wins.

SEC Spring Football Practice
Last month concluded spring football practices in the Southeastern Conference. There was a substantial increase in the attendence for the 2008 SEC football season and it truly "ROCKS". One example of that are the attendances at annual spring football games on the 12 SEC campuses this year. More than 450,000 fans attended the spring games, with an average attendance of 37,936. Last year, the SEC spring games drew a total of 373,232 or an average of 31,103 fans per game. So,y'all see the "SEC ROCKS"

2009 SEC is toughest in all college football
Another recruiting season is in the books, and once again the SEC dominated the nation in recruiting. It's no secret that the SEC is the best conference in the nation, and now you know why.
The SEC landed around one-third of the top 250 players in the nation, according to Rivals.com, and 10 SEC schools finished in the top 25 of the team rankings according to Rivals.com as well.
So here's a quick breakdown of each team and some players to keep an eye on in the next few years.
ALABAMA
The Tide lands another great class with a strong finish. The class is led by DJ Fluker, Trent Richardson, and Dre Kirkpatrick. This class is strong at offensive line, linebacker, and wide receiver.
Strength of the Class: Offensive Line - 7 signed; one 5 star, one 4 star
Sleeper: DT Chris Bonds, 3 star, Columbia, SC
Instant Impact: OT D.J. Fluker, 5 star, Foley, AL
Best Player: CB Dre Kirkpatrick, 5 star, Gadsden, AL
ARKANSAS
What a great job Bobby Petrino has done in his second year, landing a top 15 class. They landed the state's top player in Darius Winston, big time athlete Ronnie Wingo, and Dequinta Jones on signing day. Houston Nutt never recruited that well to Fayetteville, so good sign for Razorback fans.

AUBURN
Under normal circumstances, the Tigers' top 20 class would be considered a solid class, but considering Auburn underwent a coaching change two months ago, this class is outstanding. They landed a top quarterback in Tyrik Rollison and wide receiver Deangelo Benton, and still may be in the hunt for top running back prospect David Oku. The class was heavy on running backs and defensive linemen.

FLORIDA
The Gators didn't sign a big class this year, but when you have the depth and talent that they do, you don't need to. The Gators return most of their national championship team, but managed to add top receiver Andre Dubose, big defensive linemen Gary Brown, and top linebacker Jelani Jenkins.

GEORGIA
The Bulldogs, much like the Gators, didn't need a big signing class, but what they lacked in quantity they made up for in quality, landing 11 of their 18 players from the top 250 in the nation. The Bulldogs landed two big-time quarterbacks in Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger, and also landed stud receiver Marlon Brown on signing day.

KENTUCKY
The Cats signed a good class and look to be feeding off their recent success. They signed three four-star prospects led by quarterback Ryan Mossakowski from Texas.

The Bengal Tigers nearly landed the top class in the nation if not for a late defect in the end to Alabama. LSU loaded up in the state of Louisiana landing nearly whoever they wanted, and went out of state to land one of the top quarterbacks in the nation in Russell Shepard and top safety Craig Loston.

OLE MISS
Two weeks ago it looked as the Rebels would not capitalize off their great season, but 10 commits in the last four days lands the Rebels a surprisingly good class. Led by receiver Patrick Patterson, huge prep school offensive linemen Bobbie Massie, and running back Rodney Scott, the Rebels close as strong as anyone in the nation.

MISSISSIPPI STATE
The Bulldogs had am outstanding year considering their recent struggles on the field and a coaching change. The Bulldogs won the in-state battle with Ole Miss landing some top prospects such as Chad Bumphis, Fletcher Cox, and Josh Boyd. It's obvious that new coach Dan Mullen wanted lots of new skill position players to work with his first season in Starkville as well.
Strength of the Class: Wide Receiver - 9 signed; two 4 stars

Instant Impact: DE Fletcher Cox, 4 star, Yazoo City, MS
