All's well in 'Bama...well maybe

McElroy was far from perfect , the 15-for-30 and a pick would attest to that, but he did just enough to make the 'Bama faithful feel a little bit better than it did before kickoff.
Of course, it didn't hurt that he had a bruising ground game , 240 yards between Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch, and a stifling as expected defense, they held the Hokies to well under 200 yards of total offense, by his side throughout what was a close game up until the 4th quarter.
McElroy also got a little pep talk from an Alabama legend that helped get him going after his rough start.
'Shaun Alexander pulled me aside and said, 'It's going to click here in a minute. It's going to get easy for you,'' McElroy said of the former Tide running back. 'That really got my confidence up.'
All in all, though, head coach Nick Saban had to be pleased by the performance of his his new QB in the opener.
