The wait is finally over for eighth-ranked Ole Miss

At long last, the wait for the most anticipated Ole Miss football season in decades is over.
The eighth-ranked Rebels open their season today in a nationally televised game against the Memphis Tigers at Liberty Bowl Stadium. They’re a whopping 17-point favorite. They seem to have most of the pieces in place. Now they’ve got to execute the game plan.
“It always comes down to three things,” Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said. “Take care of the ball, win the turnover margin, and defensively, don’t give up the big play. Also, have an excellent special-teams game.
“If you look across the country, at the first games, most of the mistakes come in the kicking game. It just happens that way.”
It’s the final game in a longtime series between Ole Miss and Memphis, and it represents a major opportunity for the Tigers, who went 6-7 last season. Ole Miss has won four straight over Memphis and leads the overall series 46-10-2, but the games are usually close. The SEC Rocks!
