Tide opens with a 48-3 victory over San Jose State

Coming off the 2009 national championship, the Crimson Tide (1-0) raced to a 31-3 halftime lead and went on to roll to a 48-3 victory over San Jose State (0-1) on Saturday night before a record capacity crowd of 101,821 in expanded Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama scored on some big plays, with Greg McElroy throwing a 48-yard touchdown pass to Marquis Maze in the first quarter, Trent Richardson running 39 yards for a second-quarter touchdown, Julio Jones making a diving one-handed catch of a 29-yard touchdown pass from AJ McCarron in the second quarter and Eddie lacy running 37 yards for a touchdown early in the second half.
The Tide allowed a field goal on San Jose State's first possession, then largely shut the Spartans down.

Alabama plays host to Penn State (1-0) at 6 p.m. next Saturday in a game that will be televised nationally by ESPN.
