True Player Cam Newton stars as Auburn plays Arkansas State in season-opener

Cam Newton made his Auburn debut a smashing success Saturday night in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The new Tigers' quarterback threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in a 52-26 victory over Arkansas State. Newton showed his running and scrambling ability, especially on a 71-yard quarterback draw for a touchdown. He showed off his arm, too, on a long TD pass to Quindarius Carr. Freshman running back Michael Dyer got in the act in the fourth quarter with his first college TD, a 2-yard run.
Dyer finished with 95 yards.
Newton had 171 yards rushing on 15 carries. He threw for 186 yards more. Auburn finished with 608 yards of offense.
