USC rides Lattimore to Atlanta

South Carolina's football team is headed home an SEC champion tonight, and it is inviting the Gamecock fans to join in the celebration. The Gamecocks beat Florida 36-14 on Saturday to capture their first division title since joining the SEC in 1992. When they arrive home around 1 a.m., the team will head straight to Williams-Brice Stadium. There, head coach Steve Spurrier and several players will address any Gamecock fans who wish to attend. The celebration was planned before the game, athletics director Eric Hyman said as time ran out on South Carolina's first ever victory in The Swamp. "This kind of success is a cross section of a lot of people at the University of South Carolina," Hyman said, "and we want our fans to enjoy it." The Gamecocks (7-3, 5-3 SEC) claimed their first Eastern Division title by knocking off the Gators (6-4, 4-4) at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. South Carolina will get a rematch with Auburn (11-0, 7-0 SEC), which beat Georgia 49-31 Saturday. Marcus Lattimore had 41 carries, 207 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the win. Lattimore broke Sidney Rice's single-season USC freshman touchdown record. He now has 16 rushing scores on the season. He also broke Thomas Dendy's freshman single-season school rushing record. Saturday's win was South Carolina's first ever in Gainesville, its fifth over Florida all-time and the second under head coach Steve Spurrier.
