Speaking to the media Monday, Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley confirmed that Bray has been cleared to return to practice for the Volunteers. The quarterback is expected to take reps with the first-team offense Tuesday, but his status for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt will not be known until later in the week.
“I guess the question this week is going to be Tyler, and he’s been cleared to go ahead and start practicing, which is right on schedule with what we expected,” Dooley said by way of the Knoxville News Sentinel. “I would probably list him, if I had to say a word, it’s questionable and I really won’t know until we start practicing to see how he can take a snap, how accurately he can throw it, and then he’s going to have a learning curve because he’s been out of ball for five, six weeks. That’s a long time, so we’ll see.
“We’ve still got to get the other guys ready to play and we’ll just kind of take it day by day.”
Bray has missed the past five games, the Vols are 1-4 during that span, since suffering the injury in an Oct. 8 loss to Georgia. Matt Simms started the first two games after Bray was sidelined, but was subsequently replaced by true freshman Justin Worley.
