Georgia receiver A.J. Green was 1 of only 10 sophomores included on the watch list for the Maxwell Award. The 55-player list was released Saturday by Ron Jaworski, president of the Maxwell Football Club.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding college football player in the nation since 1937 and is named in honor or Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.
Green, who is also a candidate for the Biletnikoff Award for the top receiver in the nation, was named 2008 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year by league coaches and also was a consensus Freshman All-America selection. Green led league in receiving yards per game (74.1) and tied among league leaders for touchdowns receptions (8). He also bettered the Georgia freshman record for receptions with 56 catches and his 963 receiving yards represented the 3rd-best tally in school history. The SEC Rocks!
